TMS Therapy For Depression: A Drugless Way Out
Depression is a mental illness. This does not affect the body physically or cause any direct physical damage. Rather, it affects a person mentally. It often leads to people having negative thoughts, about themselves and the world in general. Feeling sad, despondent and dead from the inside are not uncommon feelings to have. In fact, many of us have gone through similar emotions. But, when these feelings don’t disappear over a reasonable period of time and begin to affect all your thoughts and actions, it is termed as clinical depression.
Though depression doesn’t cause any direct physical damage, it affects your thoughts and your feelings regarding yourself and everything else. These thoughts tend to be melancholic and sanguine in nature. It is entirely possible that a person can willingly or voluntarily cause themselves or other physical damage because of these unruly thoughts. But, fortunately, depression can be treated with the help of RTMS treatment and therapy, TMS therapy for depression, various drugs and many more. There are a number of ways to treat depression including prescribing drugs that can soothe the mind, starting therapy, counseling and so on. The challenge lies in the fact that since depression does not have any obvious physical symptoms, it is hard to recognize. The stigma around depression and mental illnesses, in general, does not help in any way.
What are some of the symptoms of depression?
Is it possible to treat depression? How?
Fortunately, it is possible to treat depression. The cause of depression is not definitely known. It can be triggered by an incident but, it can also occur because of genetical, environmental, biological and psychological factors. There are various methods to treat depression but, it must be kept in mind that this is not like any other physical illness. The effects of depression can be controlled through a variety of methods but, only when a patient themselves cooperates and expresses a desire to come out if it can they start becoming better. So, those close to the patient will have to keep up a flow of positivity and encourage them to help themselves out of this mess that is depression. Also, once a person has attained a grip over their thoughts and emotions, they must be very careful to not slip into depression again and monitor their thoughts and feelings and steadily steer themselves away from anything that might make them slip into depression again.
There are many methods to treat depression. Each individual reacts differently to each treatment method. As a result, some forms of therapy work better for some than others. The degree of depression also determines the type of treatment that is given. While mild depression can be dealt with by extending support and offering counsel, chronic depression requires different treatments which include drugs and other forms of therapy.
The different levels of therapy
There are different forms of therapy which can be broadly classified into three levels. These are Support, Psychotherapy and Drug therapy. Support is used to treat mild depression. It involves talking to a depressed person and trying to find a practical solution to their problems and solving them. The friends and family of the patient are also spoken to and educated. Psychotherapy is the next level of therapy available. It involves meeting with a professional equipped to handle these cases and talking to them. The two types of treatments used are cognitive-behavioral therapy and interpersonal therapy. In the case of chronic depression, psychotherapy along with other forms of therapy, like drugs, are used to treat a person. Drug therapy normally involves prescribing drugs, normally anti-depressants to the patients. Each drug usually acts on a different neurotransmitter. They attempt to change the chemical composition in the brain to a certain degree. The only downside is that these drugs have a lot of side-effects. They lead to abnormal weight and hormonal changes and may sometimes even cause suicidal tendencies during the early days. Most people are hesitant to use them because they mess with hormones and chemicals in the body.
Therefore, RTMS treatment and therapy have become a more popular choice for treating depression. The therapy is like the TMS therapy for depression but is different from it in certain points. Both involve the transcranial stimulation but are different from each other in the approach they take when dealing in the disease. So if you are looking for a method to deal depression without drugs then do go for this methods.
